Anam Clarifies On Proposed Hike In Power Tariff

Following criticism from different quarters including the ruling Congress party, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Monday clarified that the hike in power tariff was only a proposal given by the Discoms, and not a decision taken by the state government or the ERC.

Talking to reporters here, Ramanarayana Reddy said that the Discoms had submitted a report suggesting an increase in the power tariff. However, he said, the decision on the hike in power tariff could only be taken by the Electricity Regulatory Commission, and the government would abide by it. He said that it was improper for anyone to react on a mere proposal, as the government itself has not proposed or decided to increase the power tariff. (INN)
