In swift punitive action, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya today transferred Additional DCP Ganga Reddy of the Madhapur Police Station for brutally kicking and punching a short-film director Yogi Kumar Muthyala on Sunday.
He ordered Ganga Reddy to be posted to the City Armed Reserve headquarters in Cyberabad.
It may be mentioned here that a software engineer named Harika had lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Yogi, whose short comedy films she had acted in, was harassing her through offensive messages on Whatsapp. After the SHE Teams sent the case to the ADCP after Yogi reportedly started shouting at the SHE Team officers, Yogi apparently abused the complainant in the ADCP's presence too during the interrogation, following which Reddy punched and kicked him.
Some unidentified person shot the incident and uploaded it onto the Internet, and the video became viral. Shocked by the DCP's action, several netizens censured the entire police department with sarcastic comments wondering whether was this the friendly police of Telangana. They asked who had authorized the police to thrash people indiscriminately. The outcry resulted in the swift transfer. Further action will be taken upon completion of an investigation into the incident.
Separately, Jawahar Nagar Inspector T S Uma Maheshwar Rao, too, was transferred after he was shown in a photo resting his leg next to a woman named Bharathi sitting on a cot when she was writing a complaint at her residence in a case involving a murder allegedly by her husband.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat ordered an enquiry by Kishaiguda ACP P Krishna Murthy into the incident. Vanasthalipuram DI Chalapathi has been posted as Inspector of Jawahar Nagar police station for now.
