Sharmila Arrested After Slapping Cops, Case Booked

YSRTP founder-president Y S Sharmila today reportedly slapped a police Sub-Inspector and some constables at her residence.

The incident took place when the police were reportedly trying to stop her from visiting the office of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the TSPSC question paper leak.

According to West Zone DCP Joel Davis, upon receiving information that Sharmila was going to the SIT office without taking the permission of the police department, the police chose to stop her at her residence. But Sharmila attacked the police on duty while resisting their moves to arrest her.

Davis said that the police then arrested her for attacking police officers on duty, and took her to the Jubilee Hills police station.

Sharmila said that she was planning to visit the SIT office alone in order to submit a representation over the ongoing inquiry into the TSPSC question paper leak case. She said that she thought it was her responsibility to visit the office and provide information to the SIT officials as a responsible citizen.

She said that she was not going to hold any dharna at any place, and that she had also not given any call for any kind of protest. However, the police stopped her from going to the SIT office for no rhyme or reason, and she did what she did only in self-defence, she claimed. She also asked how male police officers could obstruct her way.

She also asked why hundreds of police personnel were deployed around her residence round-the-clock, and if she did not have any personal freedoms.

The police booked a case under Sections 330 and 353 of IPC and produced her before a judicial magistrate.
