The 'Addala Mandapam' (Hall Of Mirrors) of the Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy temple at Pungunuru in Chittoor district collapsed due to the heavy rains which lashed the area on Thursday night. Meanwhile, cracks have appeared on the walls of the 6-century-old temple.
Pungunuru residents have demanded that the Endowments Department undertake immediate repairs on the temple. They express fears that a part of the state's heritage will be destroyed forever if immediate action is not taken.
It may be mentioned here that the 'Rajagopuram' of the Srikalahasteswara temple in Srikalahasti collapsed on May 28, leading to accusations that neglect by Endowment authorities being the main cause.
