Hyderabad | 7th April 2012
The Third Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Nampally, on Saturday, remanded actress Tara Chowdhary and her live-in partner Ratineni Durga Prasad, who were arrested on the charges of running a prostitution racket, to police custody from 8 to 11 April.
While issuing the orders, the court directed the Banjara Hills police to produce both of them, with complete medical reports, in the court on 12 April.
Earlier, the Banjara Hills police sought 7 days of custody for further investigations. However, the court gave the police only 4 days of custody.
The Banjara Hills police claimed that Tara Chowdhary was forcing younger girls into prostitution. She is also understood to have been using her picture with former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to commit the offences, according to the police, in their report.
Additional Public Prosecutor Lakshman Rao told the court that the accused had resorted to blackmail of her victims and customers, for her benefit.
However, Tara Chowdhary's counsel K Srinivas said that his client was being falsely implicated in the case. He said that a large sum of money was given to one Chinni Krishna some time ago. As he did not return the money, Tara Chowdhary had lodged a complaint against him with the Banjara Hills Police. However, the police officials asked her to compromise with Chinna Krishna, and when she refused, she was implicated in the case, he alleged.
The actress was arrested based on a complaint filed by a 20-year-old sales woman Srilakshmi, from Visakhapatnam, who claimed that she was forced into prostitution by Tara, who lured her on the pretext of giving her a job. (INN)
