Telugu film character actress Kavitha today quit the ruling TDP and joined the BJP in the presence of the Andhra Pradesh State BJP president Haribabu.
The actress came to the BJP state party office where the core committee meeting was being held and joined the party in the presence of Haribabu and others.
BJP leader and former union minister D Purandeswari was also present.
Speaking to the media, Kavitha said that she did not get proper respect in the TDP. She claimed that she had never thought of leaving the TDP under any circumstances, but that some leaders within the party had conspired against her forcing her to leave the party.
"I worked selflessly for the party right from the formation of the TDP floated by late N T Rama Rao. But now I am not getting proper respect in the party," she claimed.
Kavitha said that she was attracted to the welfare programs like "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhavo" initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and so had decided to join the BJP.
Speaking on the occasion, Haribabu said that more leaders were likely to join the BJP. He called upon the people to join the party and strengthen it for the overall development of the country.
