The election heat has started in Andhra Pradesh. While the YSRCP is focusing on changing MLA candidates, the TDP and the Jana Sena are working on seat-sharing arrangements.
According to sources, the BJP is also planning to join the TDP - Jana Sena alliance. The high command has entrusted the decision-making in that regard to three BJP national leaders, and the party will take a decision by Sankranthi. It is learnt that an opinion poll in the BJP on an alliance with TDP has been completed, and that a majority of AP BJP leaders have suggested that they should go with the TDP and the Jana Sena. A report on the pros and cons of an alliance has also already been prepared, and has been submitted to PM Narendra Modi's office. The final decision on alliances will be announced after discussions in the parliamentary board. Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan is expected to leave for Delhi in the first week of January.
According to reports, the TDP, the Jana Sena and the BJP have already informally taken a preliminary decision to go together. If the alliance indeed gets finalised, there are chances that the 2014 outcomes will be repeated in the 2024 elections.
It is being reported that the BJP is seeking six Lok Sabha and 12 Assembly seats, and that it has put a condition that it should be given seats where it has the strength. There is already a lot of clarity on the seats that the TDP and the Jana Sena will contest for. With the entry of the BJP, the exercise is likely to take a few more days. TDP leader Nara Lokesh said on Friday that an announcement on alliances and seats would be made by Sankranthi.
