The Akhila Bharatiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) is conducting a Vidyarthi Ranabheri at Nizam Grounds. Sushma Swaraj is present at the meet, and the meeting has swollen up quite a bit, with youngsters having been brought in by the truckload.
The mammoth gathering is being held to assert the BJP’s support for the Telangana cause.
The language barrier created by the chaste Hindi has apparently proven rickety, with Swaraj’s full-throated speech cutting through the chilly air at the open grounds.
In a rather melodramatic speech, Sushma Swaraj is proclaiming the triumph of the rally against the High Court’s earlier refusal to permit the gathering.
Swaraj was confident that the state of Telangana would surely come through. She said that the BJP will not let the Telangana struggle go violent, and will keep it peaceful.
Swaraj reminded the crowd that the BJP had made Jharkhand and Chattisgarh from Bihar and MP respectively, and it never meant that the party was acting against the interests of the states of Bihar and MP. She said by creating Telangana, they are not going against Andhra, but trying to set right the inequality in progress of the region.
Among the demands called for at the meet, are the following:
- Telangana leaders, including Jaipal reddy, must resign
- A resolution should be passed for separate statehood for Telangana
- Intermediate exams should be postponed by at least 10 days until syllabus is completed
- The movie industry, commerce and public life should be provided with a peaceful atmosphere
