Two professors, one each from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, who were abducted by the ISIS in Libya last year were released from captivity today.
In a tweet this morning, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj expressed her happiness over the safe release of Professor Gopikrishna of Andhra Pradesh and Professor C Balram Kishan of Telangana.
She stated that the two Telugu professors were released by the extremists unharmed.
It may be mentioned here that four Indian professors were abducted by the dreaded extremist outfit on July 29 last year from between the Libya and Tunisia borders while they were headed for the Tripoli airport from Sirte University in North Libya.
While two professors from Karnataka, Ramakrishna Laxmikant of Raichur and Vijay Kumar of Bengaluru, were released within two days of capture, Gopikrishna and Kishan were released more than one year after the militants had kidnapped them.
Speaking to the media after their release, the families of the two professors said that they were thankful to the Indian government and Sushma Swaraj for bringing the abducted back from the clutches of the extremist group safely.
Srikakulam MP K Rammohan Naidu also thanked Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the External Affairs Minister for the safe release of Professor Gopikrishna, who belonged to the MP's constituency.
