The police thwarted the attempts of the members of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad to enter Osmania University campus and stage their agitation.
The police on Tuesday foiled the attempts of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members to enter Osmania University campus condemning the police action on students last Thursday, by arresting and shifting them to Faluknama police station.
Following the 'Chalo OU' call given by its national-level leaders, the ABVP activists, raising slogans against the state government and Home Minister K Sabitha Indra Reddy, tried to enter the Osmania University campus through the 3 entrance gates simultaneously.
They were demanding that the government withdraw the central paramilitary forces from Telangana region.
However, the police foiled the attempts of ABVP activists, and arrested them at Shivam Road. The ABVP activists entered into heated arguments with police over the restrictions imposed on movement of students in the campus.
Sensing trouble, the police resorted to lathicharge, and took them into custody. The police have shifted the activists to Falaknuma police station.
Following the incident, the police tightened security at all the 3 gates, and deployed additional forces. Tension prevailed in the area for some time after the lathicharge.
