Demanding the abolishing of the nominated governor system in the country, Lok Satta founder-president Jayaprakash Narayan said that the system was weakening day by day in the country.
He alleged that the nominated Governors were working as the political representatives of the ruling party in the Centre. It was against the spirit of the governor system, he opined, and demanded that the government abolish it immediately.
Participating in a program on the relations between the states and the Centre in a conference named India Next in New Delhi on Sunday, JP said that the decision-making authority right from the panchayats to the Parliament was in the hands of the Centre today. A true federal system would arrive in India only through the decentralization of power, he said. Former chief ministers N T Rama Rao and Jyoti Basu fought for such a federal system in the past, he said.
Constitution expert Subhash Kashyap, CPI national general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and others participated in the program.
