Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today addressed a massive public meeting at Yadadri Bhongir district's Vasalamarri village.
During the meeting, the CM announced that the Dalit Bandhu scheme would be implemented in the village soon and that 76 Dalit families would be given aid of Rs 10 lakh each on August 5 itself. He also announced that a GO would be released by the end of the day ordering the release of Rs 7.60 crore for the purpose.
The leader then encouraged the SCs to "make use of the money being offered" to them to establish businesses of their choice to empower themselves and their community.
"About 15 lakh SC families reside in Telangana. Most of them are poor. To address this, our government will implement the Dalit Bandhu scheme until all the SCs in the state are empowered. Besides this, we will also provide facilities like housing, water, power, roads, dumping yards, and cemeteries. 76 SC families in Vasalamarri will soon get new houses and land from us, he added.
Elaborating further on the government's plans for Dalit empowerment, KCR stated, "The Dalit Protection fund will help any villagers in distress. Through the fund, they get an income of about Rs 3.75 lakh a year if they use the aid amount to set up their own businesses. There is then no need to approach banks for loans or to pay hard-to-afford instalments."
"Our aim is to help the SC community develop financially. I would urge all the Dalit families to support such schemes. We will work for the welfare of the community in a systematic manner. Though the Opposition has been making many comments on our commitment towards welfare, we will continue to simply do our work and prove them wrong. Dalits have been oppressed and deprived of many facilities for decades. We will strive to follow the ideals and vision of Dr B R Ambedkar to empower them," he asserted.
"As part of this, we will raise a new Vasalamarri. All the dilapidated and damaged houses and roads will be constructed anew. Further, power and drainage facilities will be improved to match the facilities available at my Erravalli farmhouse. Vasalamarri will developed at par with other developed villages and towns," he promised the locals.
The CM addressed the meeting after eating lunch with the villagers at Sarpanch Anjaneyulu's residence along with Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy, MLA Sunitha Mahender Reddy, MLC and poet Goreti Venkanna, poet Deshapathi, and local officials.
