Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who visited Karimnagar today, stated that he would work for the empowerment of the Dalits in the state for as long as he lived.
Addressing a program after a review meeting at the district Collector's office along with Ministers T Harish Rao, Gangula Kamalakar and Kopula Eshwar, the CM reiterated his commitment to empowering the SC community, and asserted, "I will strive to bring Dalit emancipation until my last breath. I will strive hard and succeed with the people's cooperation. Telangana will emerge as a role model in Dalit emancipation."
Attributing the "pathetic condition" of the Dalit community to the failure of preceding governments, he added, "I will help strengthen the Dalits who have been neglected by the preceding regimes of united Andhra Pradesh for the last seven decades. Unlike those governments, ours will always take steps to strengthen the Dalit community both socially and economically."
KCR was in Karimnagar to inspect the implementation of the state's newest flagship scheme, the Dalit Bandhu, which is aimed at empowering the SC households in Telangana. Under the program, each eligible SC family will receive aid of Rs 10 lakh each.
The state government recently released a total of Rs 2,000 crore for the pilot phase of the scheme which is to be executed in poll-bound Huzurabad.
