Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj today said that the 48-hour silent period had begun in Telangana, and that Section 144 had been brought into force across the State.
Speaking at a press conference at BRKR Bhavan after the end of the election campaign for the Telangana Assembly elections which will be held on November 30, Raj said that no political party could be involved in any campaign any more, and that non-locals needed to leave the constituencies immediately.
"Advertising in movies, the social media, TV, radio and cable networks is prohibited. No display of publicity may be held. However, permitted advertisements may be shown in the print media," he said.
The CEO also said that voter slips could not have party symbols or names of any candidates, and that exit polls were prohibited till half an hour after the end of polling.
"Voters should carry some proof of identity to the polling station. And mobile phones and other electronic devices are not allowed in the polling stations," he added.
Raj said that there were 3.26 crore voters in Telangana, of which 1,62,98,418 were male, 1,63,01,750 were female and 2,676 were third gender. There were 15,406 service voters and 2,944 overseas voters, he added.
He also said that a total of 2,290 candidates were in the fray in 119 constituencies, and 35,356 polling centres had been set up across the State. And 65,000 State police officers, 18,000 Home Guards, and the central forces of 375 companies were participating in election duties, he added.
