There was further deliberation over the 4% reservation for backward Muslims in the State, during the state Assembly session on Saturday.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said that the party was willing to support the bill, and even requested the reservation percentage to be increased from 4% to 10%.
BJP leader Kishan Reddy spoke against the bill saying, that no reservation should be based on religion. He said there are minorities other than Muslims who are backward, too, and they all need to be given opportunities.
Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayanan condemned the introduction of any reservation bill, opining that such a bill is unconstitutional and degrading to the development of the nation. He stressed that the nation should be made a 'no reservation country', and appealed to politicians not to try to introduce minority privileges to increase their vote banks.
