A fire broke out in a cluster of shops in Kondagattu, Jagtial district, late Friday night.
The blaze, reportedly caused by a short circuit, quickly spread and engulfed around 30 small shops, resulting in extensive property damage.
According to preliminary estimates, the property loss is expected to exceed Rs 1 crore.
Traders had stocked large quantities of toys ahead of the Sammakka Saralamma Jathara, and several such toy shops were completely destroyed. With the shops located adjacent to each other, the fire spread quickly. Shops selling puja items, water bottles and other essentials for devotees were also completely damaged.
Traders expressed deep concern as their livelihoods went up in flames. However, fortunately, no loss of life was reported.
Officials said that an investigation had been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. They added that safety standards for electrical connections and shop structures would be reviewed to prevent such incidents in future.
