More than 71% polling was recorded by 5pm on Wednesday in the 13 districts of Seemandhra (the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh) which went to the polls to elect representatives for 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats.
According to officials, Krishna had 71.71%, Guntur had 74%, Prakasam had 73.5%, Nellore had 69%, Kadapa had 71%, Kurnool had 69%, Anantapur had 73%, Chittoor had 72.1%, Srikakulam had 72%, Vizianagaram had 70.71%, Visakhapatnam had 67%, East Godavari had 72% and West Godavari had polling of 69.09% till 5pm.
Initially, till 9am, the polling percentage was 15%, and by 11am nearly 33% voters had exercised their franchise. The polling percentage by 1pm was 51%.
Barring sporadic incidents of violence, the polling has been peaceful in the Seemandhra region. (INN)
