The institution of marriage is held with a high esteem in our country, so much so that, for most hopeful women, marriage is an end itself, rather than a journey towards a fulfilled life. This very hope was literally beaten to death from two women in Ananthapur district, by the very same people who were supposed to be its keeper.
3 years ago, Ramnadh Reddy and Vijayalakshmi of Tadipatri village had been married in a grand ceremony, during which the girls parents spared no expense in providing for her dowry. Ramnadh was not satisfied. Right from the very next day, he began harassing his wife for more, and more, and yet more, until he finally beat her to death.
The cause of Muddakka's unfortunate death is entirely different. Her husband, Narayana Swamy, was a raving alcoholic, who snatched the money she earned via back-breaking work at a farm in order to support his addiction. However, when Muddakka had finally decided that she had had enough, and refuse to give her husband any more money, her decision proved fatal for her. Narayana Swamy picked up a stick, and hit her with it until she lost her life.
