BJP senior leader and Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreya opined that it was highly impossible to give 12% reservation for Muslims in Telangana.
Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Dattatreya alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was trying to appease the Muslim community by promising 12% reservation.
He said that the TRS government should learn lessons from previous Congress regime which failed to implement even 5% Muslim reservation. He said that the Congress government was forced to reduce the quota to 4%, and its continuation was still subject to the final verdict of the Supreme Court.
Therefore, KCR should restrain from reiterating the promise of 12% reservation for Muslims in the State.
Dattatreya also made it clear that the BJP was against giving reservations on the basis of religion. However, it would support reservations on the basis of social and economic backwardness.
He said that the Congress party lost power due to its policy of appeasement, and the TRS too would meet the same fate if tried to replicate the same policies.
The BJP leader demanded that the TRS government unveil its comprehensive policy on providing its promised free education from KG to PG. He also sought clarity on the implementation of RTE in Telangana, and also asked KCR to clarify how he planned to implement the 1956 cut-off year for fee reimbursement.
He also demanded that the State government send an all-party delegation to the national capital to seek Central help on various issues. He said that he had been making efforts to get an additional 1000 MW of unallocated power for Telangana. (INN)
