100 Injured As Carbon Monoxide Leaks In Factory
100 female workers of a shrimp processing unit East Godavari sustained injuries as large quantities of Carbon Monoxide leaked into the units due to a technical failure.
100 workers of a shrimp processing factory, all of the women, at Peddapuram in the East Godavari district sustained serious to minor injuries as large quantities of Carbon Monoxide leaked into the processing units due to a technical failure.
Of the 100, two workers are in an extremely critical condition as they had inhaled large amounts of the gas.
TDP MLA and Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa visited the victims who were admitted to the Sanjivi Hospital and took their testimony.
Chinarajappa said that the factory administration had not informed the government or the police about the leakage, and continued operations. This had raised suspicions of foul play, he said.
He also said that all possible support will be given to the victims, and measures would be taken to make factories more accountable.
The TDP MLA vowed to take action against the factory authorities and also bring in a system to measure effluents.
