Ex-Wakf Board Member Sacked For Selling Wakf Lands

In a significant development, the Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board suspended the Mutawalli of Dargah Shah Khamosh, Syed Akbar Nizamuddin Hussaini, from the post on the charges of selling away Wakf lands and misappropriation of funds.

Akbar Nizamuddin is also the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Nizamia, the Chairman of the Darulsalaam Cooperative Bank and the Secretary/Treasurer of Deccan College of Medical Sciences and Engineering Technology.

He had served as a member of the State Wakf Board for 2 terms, and was also a member of the Central Wakf Council.

Speaking to media persons here, Wakf Board Special Officer Shaik Mohammad Iqbal informed that Akbar Nizamuddin had sold a portion of the 867 acres of land under Dargah Shah Khamosh.

He sold 121 acres and 17 guntas of Dargah land at Maqta Khanojiguda in Alwal, Malkajgiri.

The sale proceeds were carried out through 4 persons who were given GPAs by Akbar Nizamuddin.

This came to light when the matter went to the Supreme Court and the Collector claimed that the land belonged to the government. He then contended that the land was Wakf Board.

Akbar Nizamuddin is accused of the sale or misuse of 400 acres of Wakf land in Maqta Sultanpur of East Hyderabad, 8.3 acres in Ameerguda of Langarhouz Taluqua, 69.30 acres in Maqta Hasan Baig, 266 acres in Mangalanikunta and 9.27 acres of Saber Gulshan in Langar Houz.

The Saber Gulshan is a Wakf Mashrootul Qidmat and the same has been converted into a private farmhouse by Akbar Nizamuddin, Shaik Mohammad Iqbal said.

About 36 shops were also located in Saber Gulshan, and Akbar Nizamuddin informed the Wakf Board that he was collecting a rental of nearly Rs. 15,000 each from 36 shops. He had also secured an NOC from the Wakf Board to set up the Shah Khamosh Engineering College on the Saber Gulshan property. Iqbal said that the shops and building constructed by Akbar Nizamuddin at Saber Gulshan were illegal.

The Wakf Board has also initiated an enquiry into the misuse of properties belonging to Takia Ameer Ali Shah in Afzalgunj and Maharajgunj, which were being managed by Akbar Nizamuddin.

A case has been registered against Akbar Nizamuddin at the Central Crime Station, and the Wakf Board took over all the properties of Dargah Hazarath Shah Khamosh under its direct management.

Iqbal informed that there are 77,000 Wakf properties in Telangana and about 67,000 properties in Seemandhra. He said that the drive to restore the Wakf properties would be intensified after the end of the election process. (INN)
