Protesting against the unscheduled power cuts in Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress party, on Sunday, called upon the party rank and file to stage dharnas and rallies across mandal headquarters in the state on August 28-30.
In a media statement, the YSRCP stated that the dharnas and rallies would highlight the government's failure to address the power crisis.
The party has planned to lay siege to power sub-stations in villages, and to picket DISCOM offices in the mandal and district headquarters, from August 28 to August 30.
The YSRCP also called for a state-wide bandh on August 31, in protest against the government's failure to address the energy crisis.
"Due to the severe energy crisis, all sections of people are facing problems. Managements have been laying off staff due to power outages. This will cause social unrest in the society. Despite the state witnessing serious power problem, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has failed to respond to the issue properly, and has not initiated any alternative measures to tide over the problem," said a spokesperson. Bandh will only effect common man. Calling bandh, bus burning, causing damage to public property all these will not effect government. Only sufferer is common man. Labourers who are living on daily wages will lose their source of living, private company employees travelling in RTC buses will be absent for their duties and liable for loss of pay. Like this in many ways the common man is very much affected. I would feel a Dharna in front of Assembly is better to express our concern.
