The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad, on Friday said that there was no threat of any tsunami hitting India's coastline following the massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami, which hit the coast off Japan earlier in the day.
"The INCOIS is monitoring the situation", a statement issued by the Union Home Ministry stated.
"Based on historical earthquake and tsunami data, any tsunami threat does not exist for Indian Ocean. This centre (INCOIS) will monitor sea level changes near epicentral region and report in case of tsunami threat," the INCOIS stated.
