Following the
directions of the All India Congress Committee, Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas sent a report to the high command over the anti-party program telecast by Sakshi, the Telugu news channel owned by Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
The AICC had sought a report from the Pradesh Congress Committee on the 'vilification campaign' launched by Sakshi against Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The channel had broadcast the program on Friday and repeated it on Saturday. The program said that the image of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi was waning across the country.
According to sources, the PCC has sent the raw footage as well as transcripts from the program, beside copies of the newspaper and its translation, to the high command, in its report.
Complaints had been flooding in from many senior Congress leaders after the beaming of the program, which they charge to be detrimental to the high command. Congress leaders are demanding 'stringent' action against the Kadapa MP, who, they allege, is using the channel to malign the Congress president and damaging the image of the party.
According to sources, the Congress Core Committee will meet in New Delhi to take stock of the latest political situation in the state.
The Core Committee is likely to discuss the issue which arose after the state government announced tests for the recruitment of Sub-Inspector posts, and on the free zone issue. The adverse remarks by Sakshi would also be discussed, the sources say.
