The Telangana CM directed that efforts be made to set up 250 residential colleges and schools for SCs, STs and minorities from the next academic year itself.
Stating that the future of youth relied on education, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today directed that efforts be made to set up 250 residential educational colleges and schools with high standards for SCs, STs and minorities, part of the KG-to-PG free education scheme he has been speaking of for two years now, from the 2016-17 academic year itself.
At a high level review meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari and officials at his camp office, KCR directed officials to look for areas/sites to set up the schools and colleges, and to locate these institutions in areas where the population of SCs, STs and minorities was high rather than necessarily in mandal headquarters. He also asked for an action plan.
The Chief Minister emphasized that priority be given to 32 segments lacking in such institutions.
The government had announced 70 institutions for minorities, 130 for SCs and 50 for STs as part of the KG-to-PG program.
