The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday strongly condemned the non-celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day by the Telangana government on September 17.
Speaking after releasing a CD "CM KCR - Double Speak: Operation MIM Appeasement" at the State BJP office, Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao did not celebrate the Hyderabad Liberation Day at the official level only to please the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.
He also shared video clips of KCR's speech delivered on August 23, 2010, wherein he objected to the non-celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day. He had even exhorted the Congress MLAs from the Telangana region to pressurise the then Chief Minister K Rosaiah for the official celebrations.
He asked why KCR had changed his stand on the issue.
Kishan Reddy alleged that as part of "Operation MIM Appeasement", KCR was providing unconstitutional reservations to Muslims, making extravagant grants to Sania Mirza, naming the Metro Rail mascot NIZ, attempting to rename the KBR Park after the Nizam, and undermining the historic day of September 17.
He contended that September 17 was the "real Independence Day" for Telangana wherein people were liberated from the "oppressive" Nizam's rule and the Razakars' atrocities.
He also described the Nizam as a foreign ruler. However, he claimed that people of all religions fought for independence.
The Telangana BJP chief announced that his party would create awareness among the people across Telangana.
He strongly condemned the arrest of BJP workers at the Golconda Fort, and the lathicharge on his Party's activists in other districts when they tried to celebrate the occasion.
He also condemned the reported remarks of Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy made on September 17 praising the Nizam for giving assent to merge Hyderabad State with the Indian Union.
BJP MLAs Dr K Lakshman, N V S S Prabhakar and Chintala Ramchandra Reddy, MLC Dilip Kumar, National Executive Committee member N Indrasena Reddy and other leaders were also present in the press conference. (INN)
