Akbaruddin Owaisi Blasts Govt Over Conduct Of Assembly

The TRS government faced a severe lashing from the least expected quarters, the MIM, for the manner in which the Assembly session was being conducted.
Hyderabad | 6th November 2017
The TRS government faced a severe lashing from the least expected quarters, its ally the MIM, for the manner in which the winter session of the Telangana Assembly was being conducted.

As Question Hour was in progress in the House on Monday and even as Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy was replying to the supplementary questions of the members regarding the payment of risk allowance to traffic policemen, MIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi suddenly stood up at the stroke of 11:30 am, the time when Question Hour was to be completed as per the decision taken at the BAC meeting.

Owaisi took strong objection to Question Hour being continued even after the allotted time was over and some TRS members being permitted to ask supplementary questions.

He pointed out to Speaker Madhusudhana Chary how the other day he was asked to take his seat even as he was asking supplementaries. The Deputy Speaker had on that day pointed out that at the stroke of 11:30 am Question Hour needed to conclude, and hence did not allow him to continue, Owaisi said, and charged that different rules were being applied to the treasury benches and the opposition members.

The MIM Floor Leader also said that he was elected to the Assembly four times and had never experienced in the past not knowing what subjects the House would discuss the next day.

"Now we do not know till we come to the House what the agenda for the day is. We do not know how many days the House is going to sit for, and till what date the session will continue," he said, and quipped that only the Leader of the House (the CM) knew and that it was a pity that he didn't inform the House.

Owaisi further alleged that Question Hour seemed to be conducted in such a manner that the government could avoid or evade answering delicate questions of the Opposition members. In his regard, he pointed out that while it was decided that 45 minutes before the closure of Question Hour only one member would be permitted to ask a supplementary question, surprisingly during last four days more than three members were being permitted to do so. This seemed to be the strategy of the government - to drag on a particular question so that the other delicate ones could be avoided during the allotted time, he said.

Expressing his strong protest over such strategies being adopted by the government, the MIM member insisted that the BAC meeting be convened forthwith to resolve all these issues that were confronting the opposition members.

Taken aback by the tirade launched by the MIM member, the Speaker as well as Minister for Legislative Affairs Harish Rao said that a BAC meeting would be held soon.
