Andhra Pradesh opposition party YSRCP today received a big blow.
The party's Rajya Sabha MP R Krishnaiah resigned from his post.
He had submitted his resignation letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar yesterday, and the latter accepted the resignation today.
Krishnaiah resigned though he still had four years left in his term. Recently, YSRCP MPs Bida Masthan Rao and Mopidevi Venkataramana had also resigned from their Rajya Sabha seats.
There are a total of 11 seats in the Rajya Sabha for the State. After the YSRCP came to power in the state in 2019, it won all the 11 seats in the elections held in three phases. It is the fourth largest party in the Rajya Sabha in terms of numbers.
After the YSRCP's debacle in the 2024 general elections, migration of leaders from the party started. Many MPs and MLCs who patiently remained in the party despite alleged insults and difficulties are now leaving the party.
With the resignation of Krishnaiah, the strength of the YSRCP in the Rajya Sabha has come down to eight.
