It also affirmed that there would not be any more defections, and that it was all a media tactic by the TDP.
Terming media statements that many more elected YSRCP representatives were looking towards the TDP as "wicked and crooked", the YSR Congress said that such false notions should be dispelled and has affirmed that there would be no more defections.
Rajampeta MP Mithun Reddy said that there was no truth in the news appearing in a section of the press that some leaders from the Chittoor district would cross over. He said that they were firmly with the YSRCP, and would work under the leadership of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
He said that Chandrababu Naidu should concentrate on his poll promises and the development of the new state instead of orchestrating such rumours.
"There can always be a bad egg in the basket, and the way TDP is blowing it out of proportion only shows that it is afraid of facing the reality, and is not in a position to take up its poll promises. As a cover-up bid, it is trying to engineer defections to divert the attention of the people, but we, as a responsible opposition, will fight for the cause of the people, and will act as a sentinel to ensure that Chandrababu Naidu grants loan waivers to farmers, works on the DWACRA loans, and fulfills other promises, failing which we will mobilize public opinion against the government," YSR Congress Party MLA G Srikanth Reddy and MP P Mithun Reddy told reporters in Hyderabad on Monday.
Objecting to the Party MP from Nandyal shifting sides, they said, "There is no truth in his argument of shifting sides for the sake of the development of his constituency. It is only to further his business interests. There may be some minor hiccups, but no one will leave the party as we have all been elected with the YSRCP party symbol and with the faith that the people have reposed in the leadership of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy."
Taking a dig at the Nandyal MP S P Y Reddy, Srikanth Reddy said, "If he was that interested in his constituency and the water share, which could only be achieved if he was with the ruling party, he should have contested as an independent and leaned towards the majority party. His argument has no takers and this is raw opportunism. Encouraging defections and giving huge publicity to such events, real or perceived, are only mind games that the TDP is playing, and people who are elected with the YSRCP symbol will stick to the party and strengthen the hands of our leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy."
"We will play the role of a viable opposition party and force the ruling party to take up development work, and at the same time will ensure that Chandrababu Naidu fulfills all of his poll promises. At a time when farmers, students, employees and other sections of the society are in a quandary about their future in the wake of the creation of a new State, and with the location of the capital city hitting a stalemate, the TDP should give hope and instill confidence in this hour of crisis, but Chandrababu Naidu seems to be more interested in orchestrating defections, which shows that his priorities lie elsewhere.
"With a vote share of over 44%, we are the voice of the people, and trying to throttle us by nefarious means will only spell doom for the TDP," they said, adding that Naidu who was speaking of wisdom while he was in the opposition has suddenly turned around and wanted to fox the polity by trying to lure elected representatives from other parties to weaken the opposition block.
His plans would not succeed as all those who were elected on a YSRCP ticket would be loyal to the Party and would expose the misdeeds of the TDP in the next 5 years while taking up the people's issues, they said.
"The TDP should think in terms of inclusive growth, and we will be happy to be a part of the development process, but it should shun such unscrupulous practices. Losing a couple of leaders does not affect our party in any way, and we will be in the forefront to fight for the people," they added. (INN)
