Nellore YSR Congress MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy submitted his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.
His resignation was in protest against "the way in which the state's bifurcation was handled by the Centre, and its unilateral and authoritarian attitude".
"I am sending the resignation to the Speaker, and if she wants me to personally hand it over, I will go and give it to her," he told reporters in Hyderabad on Monday.
"The resignation is in protest against the double standards of Congress and TDP, and the unilateral decision taken on the division of the state," he said.
"While Chandrababu Naidu has sent in a letter giving his nod for the division of the state, his MPs, MLAs and others are on an agitation mode in Seemandhra. The situation is no different with the Congress either.
"The petty-mindedness of the Congress has opened up many old wounds, and the country is on the boil now. We are not against the bifurcation; we are opposing the conduct of the Congress. With the tacit support of TDP, it is looking for short-term gains, and has opened a Pandora's box.
"All stake-holders should be consulted before taking such important decisions. The Congress has ignored the basic rule of consensus. Any decision taken by the Centre should be agreeable to all concerned, and no region should be put to a disadvantage.
"My resignation is in protest against the adamant attitude of the Congress, and its double standards along with TDP on the issue," he said.
"Congress leader Digvijay Singh now speaking in terms of appointing a committee is ridiculous," he said. (INN)
