YSR Congress Approaches SC Against Defections

Hyderabad | 13th May 2016
The YSR Congress Party filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Friday against the defections by its MLAs to the TDP in Andhra Pradesh.

The Party included 16 YSRCP MLAs, who joined the TDP recently, as respondents.

The YSRCP also mentioned in its petition that Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Sivaprasada Rao was not initiating any action against the defecting MLAs.

The Petitioner and YSRCP Floor leader in the Lok Sabha Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy told the court that the YSRCP had approached it because of the Speaker's inaction.

Reddy urged the court to initiate action against the defectors immediately, in a manner similar to what happened in the case of Uttarakhand, and requested the court to declare the defecting MLAs as ineligible.
