Telangana Assembly Secretary Narasimha Charyulu today issued notices to 10 BRS MLAs who had defected to the Congress, asking for an explanation for their actions.
Acting upon the directives of the Supreme Court, Charyulu dispatched the notices in response to a disqualification petition filed by the BRS.
The notices stipulate that the lawmakers must provide a written response.
The MLAs who received these notices have said that they would respond after taking legal advice.
For the unversed, after the Assembly elections conducted in December 2024, 10 BRS MLAs - Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, Kale Yadayya, Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy, Tellam Venkat Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, M Sanjay Kumar, Prakash Goud, Gudem Mahipal Reddy and Arikepudi Gandhi - had defected to the Congress.
The BRS had submitted a complaint to the Assembly Speaker urging action against those MLAs. Due to a lack of response from the Speaker, the BRS proceeded to file a petition in both the High Court and the Supreme Court in pursuit of suitable orders.
Recently, the Supreme Court reviewed the BRS petition and inquired about the delay in the Speaker taking a decision, and instructed the Assembly Secretary to provide a specific timeline for action. In line with this directive, the Secretary has issued notices to the MLAs who had defected.
