YSR Telangana Party founder Y S Sharmila today criticised the TRS government once again for its "failure" to provide employment to the youth of Telangana.
She claimed that the regime had "failed miserably" at keeping its promises regarding not only the generation of employment but also the provision of free housing for the poor, and the introduction of various welfare schemes.
The leader visited the house of Srikanth (26), who was reportedly driven to taking his own life after failing to find employment, and consoled the bereaved family.
"To achieve statehood for Telangana, Kasoju Srikantha Chary immolated himself believing that the new state would be one where the dreams and aspirations of the youth would be realised. Unfortunately, even seven years after the formation of the state, another Srikanth was forced to commit suicide, this time over his lack of employment. Such a state of affairs can be attributed to the failure of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao who has only secured jobs for his own family. He has not been able to safeguard or promote the interests of the people of our state," she thundered.
"As a party of the Opposition, the YSRTP has the right to question the government on this. And, the government must answer. Although our party is being targeted for speaking up against the administration, we will continue to fight for the people and their rights," Sharmila vowed.
Before meeting Srikanth's family, she had participated in a protest held at Chandur mandal's Pullemla village, in Nalgonda district. She had also garlanded a statue of her late father, former Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, before that.
During the demonstration, the leader had accused KCR of "duping" the state's youth on the matter of employment, and had expressed serious displeasure at the KCR regime for "ignoring" the promises it had made to various sections of society.
Though new to Telangana's political arena, Sharmila has been highlighting the plight of the unemployed emphatically for months - currently, her party organises protests against the lack of job opportunities in the state
every Tuesday. It has said it will continue to do so till Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao "wakes up" from his "deep slumber of apathy" and addresses the issue.
