Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah emphasised the need for youth to augment mathematical skills to meet today's changing global business environment.
Addressing a seminar on mathematic skills, organised by the NRI Academy, in Hyderabad on Sunday, the minister said that Andhra Pradesh would be the mathematical gateway of the world in the next decade.
He said that over 1.5 crore professionals with a mathematical background would be required at the global level in the next decade.
"India, being a software super power, contributes a major chunk of professionals with a mathematical background, as the subject plays the role of a foundation in all the streams of engineering. It is important to note that Andhra Pradesh contributes 11% of all the IT professionals working globally," Ponnala said.
The minister also said that since the year 2012 marks the 125th birth anniversary year of Ramanujam and the 100th birth anniversary of Alan Turing, who invented the computer, the AP government will organize "Advantage AP", a global IT event to commemorate these personalities. (INN)
