YSR Telangana Party president Y S Sharmila met a senior CBI official today and complained against the "irregularities and large-scale corruption" perpetrated by the KCR government in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP).
Submitting a memorandum backed by documentary information, Sharmila alleged that the project, which was directly controlled by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was a classic example of rampant corruption, nepotism and favouritism.
"KLIP is a glaring example of the corruption of KCR and his government of astronomical proportions, with the project redesigned to increase the expenditure to Rs 1.25 lakh crore from Rs 40,000 crore," she claimed.
She alleged that the project's foundation lay in "unfathomable degrees of irregularities that included embezzlement, falsified accounts, bloated pricing and consistent mismatches between actual expenditure and faked expenses".
She also claimed that a single contractor had been found to be favoured without a level-playing field being created for the others.
Sharmila also claimed that the outcome figures promised were also faked by the TRS. The Detailed Project Report promised irrigation for an absolutely unrealistic 24 lakh acres, she said.
"As a party that is deeply committed to the interests of Telangana, we today demand an objective and urgent investigation into these irregularities, many of which have been well-documented for the media and for the authorities' reference. It is deplorable to note that the two national parties have thoroughly failed in bringing out the irregularities in KLIP, and the YSR Telangana party is taking the onus to expose KCR and his tyrannical dealing of things. We hope there will be some movement after our complaint," Sharmila said.
