Y S Sharmila, daughter of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and incumbent CM Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who has been busy with the preparations for the launch of her new party, will reportedly shed more light regarding the party's entry into Telangana's political arena at a massive public meeting in Khammam, on April 9.
Meanwhile, sources close to the leader have hinted that she has decided to call the party YSR Telangana Party in an obvious homage to her father and a bold reclamation of his legacy (her brother's party, the ruling party in AP, is called the YSR Congress Party). The name will likely receive official approval from the Election Commission of India by the end of the week.
The insiders also divulged some information about the proposed party's flag. Sharmila has reportedly planned to include three colours in it - blue, green, and white. The dates on which the official announcements regarding the party will be made are still unclear, however. Various dates are reportedly being considered for the same - YSR's birth anniversary (July 8) and the day of his swearing-in as CM (May 14).
Though she has been occupied with the works to launch her party, Sharmila has also made time to meet YSR loyalists all over Telangana in a series of meetings. She has also been vocal in her criticism against the TRS government's "failure" to work for the welfare of the people of the state.
Recently, on the occasion of International Women's Day, she
addressed a gathering at her Lotus Pond residence, and alleged that the women in the state, which was "formed to drive out existing inequalities", were still facing the very same inequalities and injustices that they did before the bifurcation. Sharmila added that the ruling party had "failed miserably" in treating the women of the state in a just manner.
Amidst all this, there is much speculation about the leader's intentions to contest in the state's 2023 Assembly elections from either Hyderabad or Khammam. In her bid to garner support for her soon-to-be-launched party, she promised the people that she will fight to bring back Rajanna Rajyam (the era of her father's rule) in the state.
The decision to break away from the YSR Congress Party in AP confirms the many rumours about the fallout between YSR's two children. In fact, Sharmila even said as much at a recent press event. Citing "political differences" with her brother, Jagan, as the primary reason for her decision to float a new party, she even asked the media to question the AP CM about why he had not given her any importance in the YSRCP.
