Four women were abducted by a 7-member gang from Mumbai, in the morning, from Ujwala Rescue Home in Ramanthapur. The gang allegedly attacked the security guards there with iron rods and lethal weapons.
Taking serious note over the kidnapping, minister for Women Welfare And Child Development Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, on Saturday, directed the city police and the Chief Secretary of the Women And Child Welfare Department to probe the incident and submit a report to her.
All the abducted women hail from Maharashtra and West Bengal. The police had rescued the women from Kukatpally nine months back, and got them admitted into the rescue home, following directions from the court.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the Ramanthapur area, after local residents barged into the rescue home, demanding that it be shifted from their area. They suspect that the management of rescue home is responsible for flesh trade, and that it has been supplying women to brothels in the city.
Following the tension, police deployed additional forces at Ramanthapur to prevent untoward incidents. (INN)
