37-year-old Lokeshwari, who had attempted suicide outside the Panjagutta police station yesterday, died of the burns today.
She had poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze yesterday. She received 75% burns. The police rushed her to NIMS first, and then to the Osmania General Hospital, where she died today undergoing treatment.
The Panjagutta police said that Lokeshwari, a resident of Chennai and separated from her husband for well over a decade, had reached the city a few days back from Chennai to search for one Praveen Kumar, 51, a businessman whom she had worked for five years back and whom she had had a live-in relationship with before they had a bitter falling out with Kumar even filing a criminal case against her claiming she had stolen gold from his shop, a case that was struck down later.
She claimed in a letter that she had written to the police before she set herself on fire that Praveen Kumar had cheated her of Rs 1 crore.
A magistrate recorded her dying declaration. The police are still searching for Praveen.
