All India Congress Committee secretary and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar on Thursday condemned the remarks of Telugu Desam Party leaders on the renaming of the Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam after Rajiv Gandhi.
Talking to media persons at CLP office, Ponguleti questioned TDP leaders as to why they were raising a hue and cry over the renaming of the Thoranam after the former PM, when he had laid down his life for the country.
Refuting the claims of TDP leaders that sentiments of Telugu people were hurt with the renaming of the Thoranam, the MLC stated the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, who had come to power by backstabbing his father-in-law and party founder NTR, has no moral right to criticize Rajiv Gandhi.
He said Congress workers never raised any objections over naming stadiums, colleges, and other offices in the name of NTR. Why was the TDP cadre finding fault and raising objection for renaming of Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Ponguleti asked.
Blaming Naidu for the microfinance crisis in the State, the AICC member asked the TDP to stop the blame game and help in trying to find a solution to the problem.
Condemning the remarks of CPI general secretary K Narayana, who threatened that his party cadre will uproot the name plaque at the Thoranam if it mentions Rajiv Gandhi's name, the MLC demanded a withdrawal of his comments and sought an apology from him.
MLC Whip Konda Murali accused CPI leaders of making baseless statements on the Congress as "they have no work".
