The state government has increased the wages of home guards who were hitherto suffering due to their inadequate salaries.
A decision to this effect has been taken after Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy and Director General Of Police K Aravinda Rao met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the secretariat on Thursday, and enlightened him about the necessity of the wage-hike.
"The wages of home guards have been increased from Rs. 130 to Rs. 200 per day," informed the Home Minister after emerging from her meeting with the Chief Minister. Following the hike in the home guards' daily wages, the government would have to bear an additional burden of Rs. 68 crores, she said.
Another issue, pertaining to the release of prisoners, also figured in the meeting with the Chief Minister, who has given his nod for their remission.
The cut-off date for remission of prisoners was 31st December 2010 which has been extended to 25th January 2011. The nod by the Chief Minister will facilitate the release of 284 prisoners on the Republic Day.
As the government had extended the remission date, more prisoners might be released, informed the Home Minister.
