Voting will take place in 7 of the 12 assembly constituencies, through the Electronic Voting Machine system, while ballot papers will be used in the remaining constituencies.
Talking to media persons at his chambers in the secretariat on Monday, Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao revealed that the EVMs will be used in Nizamabad, Mancherial, Chennur, Sirpur, Siddipet, Vemulavada and Dharmapuri assembly constituencies.
He said that ballot papers will be used in Sircilla, Yellareddy, Huzurabad, Korutla, and Waragal (West) assembly constituencies.
The decision that the 7 constituencies will use EVMS came after the scrutiny of nomination papers brought the number of valid nominations under the magic number of 64.
4 EVMs can be connected in a series, and each EVM can display the names of 16 candidates, limiting the number of candidates to 64. If more than this number of nominations are received, the EC has to opt for the ballot paper method.
Dr Subba Rao also revealed that his office has been receiving complaints from businessmen from Karimnagar district who claim police harassment. He said that they complained that the police were taking away cash from them after suspecting that the money will be used in the elections.
