Former Congress leader and erstwhile Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy today called on Telangana's Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy and submitted a representation to him, urging the latter to "solve" the problems being faced by the farmers of the Rangareddy and Vikarabad districts.
In his plea, Vishweshwar Reddy appealed to the minister to buy the paddy produced by the farmers at the earliest by issuing the necessary orders to the relevant officials for the procurement.
Further, he apprised Niranjan Reddy of the problems being faced by the farmers trying to sell their produce at the Tandur, Peddemul, Yalala, Doma, Kulkacharla, Bulkapur Sardar Nagar and Maheswaram paddy procurement centres.
The leader told the minister that the paddy had been languishing at the aforementioned procurement centres for the last one month and that much of the produce had germinated in that period.
He also told the minister that the farmers were suffering due to the lack of availability of gunny bags and tarpaulin covers at the centres, and urged him to take timely action to rectify the situation.
Vishweshwar Reddy is the second leader to highlight the plight of the state's farmers and their difficulties in selling their produce at procurement centres.
After heavy rain lashed several parts of the state some days ago, politician Y S Sharmila had also spoken about the
problems the flood-hit farmers of Vikarabad district were having to contend with. She had demanded that the government support the affected group.
