The Andhra Pradesh government has announced that Visakhapatnam will get the Metro rail project.
Announcing a slew of schemes, AP Information Technology Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said children between 6 to 14 years of age will be educated under the "Badi Pilustondi" scheme.
Speaking to media persons, he said 24,596 children had been enrolled under the scheme, and a biometric system would be introduced to mark attendance.
The IT minister also announced the "Polam Pilustondi" scheme for farmers, where agriculture officials will make visits to farms and educate farmers on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Under the "Neeru Chettu" scheme, Raghunath Reddy said about one lakh saplings 2,25,000 hecatres would be planted in all the 13 districts of AP in 5 years for water-shed management.
He also said that the AP government planned to make the state drought-free in the next 5 years. He also said that sand mining would be monitored through CCTV cameras at mining sites.
The government would also award the contracts to women of DWCRA groups as a step to empower them, he announced.
Raghunatha Reddy also said that the transfer of government employees would be decided within a month. Employees from the MRO-level to secretary-level would also be transferred within a month.
In another major announcement, the minister said that the government planned to make generic and allopathic medicines available to people at low costs. Also, it would make low-cost breakfast available in 3 districts at NTR canteens. (INN)
