The Andhra Pradesh government said that the 2 metro rail projects in the State would be completed within three and a half years.
The State government has assigned the construction of the metro rail projects of AP to Delgi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
DMRC principal advisor E Sreedharan has been appointed as the advisor to the government of AP on the projects.
In a meeting with Sreedharan at his office, the Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh would initially have two metro rail projects in Visakhapatnam and the VGTM (Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri) area. He asked the DMRC principal advisor to finish both the projects within three and a half years.
The Chief Minister also asked Sreedharan to prepare a feasibility report for a rail-based Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS).
The State government has also proposed a metro rail project for Tirupati. However, the Tirupati metro rail project will be taken up only after the Visakhapatnam and VGTM projects are completed.
Sreedharan assured the Chief Minister that the DMRC would support and assist the State government in every way possible.
Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao, Advisor (Communications) Dr. Parakala Prabhakar and other officials were present in the meeting. (INN)
