The people of Kovvada, in Ranasthalam Mandal of Srikakulam district, are all set to go up in arms against a proposed nuclear power plant there, a la similar protests at Kakarapalli and Sompeta.

Egged on by environmental activists armed with strident warnings of cancer, brain damage, water contamination and other dire illnesses, people of around ten villages near the 1400 acre site of the proposed Rs. 750 crore nuclear power plant.
"You cannot gain progress at the expense of the poor man's health. We will not allow this to happen," said one resident of a nearby village.

Mr. Venkat- Thank you for your question. Nuclear technology in those days was new. After such type of incidents, the technology was developed and implementing in operating plants so that design of the nuclear reactors will be modified accordingly. Normally technology will be developed based on lesson leant from operating nuclear power plants and operating experience with incidents only.
