The Rs. 2,500 crore facility will be set up through a collaboration with the Brighton Group.
A proposal to set up a nuclear power equipment manufacturing facility at a cost of Rs. 2500 crore (USD 600 billion) in Andhra Pradesh is likely to take definite shape shortly.
This was a result of talks between chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Brighton Group Chairman Kit Kung. A Memorandum of Understanding is also likely to be signed between the 2, shortly.
The heavy equipment and forged steel manufacturing company represents a group of companies founded by Kit Kung in 1980, with headquarters in USA.
Brighton currently maintains field offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Taiyuan, Chongqing and Wuhan. It will manufacture large forged steel components used in the 3rd generation nuclear power plants, besides equipment for large industries including petrochemicals, conventional power plants (electric and hydro) and shipbuilding, minister for major industries J Geetha Reddy told briefing media persons on Thursday.
The government has earmarked 800 acres through the APIIC, at Nakkapalli in Visakhapatnam district for the proposed plant.
The company is expected to take 2,500 highly skilled personnel, provide indirect employment to 10,000, and direct employment to a lakh in a span of 5 years. The production will begin in 2 years, said Kit Kung, adding that their company has plans to expand all over the world, including in India.
The proposed plant has the capacity to produce 3 to 4 units every year, each unit utilising 30,000 tonnes of steel costing us $200 million, said Kit Kung. This unit can be used to set up nuclear power manufacturing plants.
The new plant requires additional support factories, as ancillary units, in its surroundings. With this, the parent plant envisages employment to over one lakh people.
Kit Kung has asked for infrastructure support like power, gas, water and a connecting road to the proposed plant. Mr He has also asked for natural gas allocation for the plant.
He also formally invited the AP team to visit their plant in China.
Industry and Commerce Department Principal Secretary Sam Bob, APIIC Vice Chairman and MD B R Meena, and senior officials from both parties attended the meeting.
