The Vice President of the country M Venkaiah Naidu has tested positive for the novel coronavirus for a second time.
He underwent Covid screening tests in New Delhi before his scheduled visit to Hyderabad to take part in the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, which showed the infection.
Naidu immediately went into self-isolation at his home.
The office of the Vice President said that he would remain in home isolation for one week as per the advice of doctors.
In a statement, Naidu urged all those who had come into close contact with him to undergo Covid screening tests as a precautionary measure.
Naidu was first infected with the virus in September 2020.
