He, of the haunting baritone, is no more.
Nutan Prasad, the legendary character artiste who graced over 70 films - many of them from a wheelchair - passed away at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday (30th March), after a prolonged illness.
Born Vara Prasad on 12 December 1945, in Kaikaluru (Krishna district), Nutan Prasad debuted in the film world in 1973 in Andala Ramudu (a movie that starred Akkineni Nageshwara Rao).
Since then, he has acted alongside 2 generations of actors, in a variety of roles - he has successfully proved his mettle as a rib-tickling comedian, a scheming villain, a doting father, and more. Other films he starrred in include Muthyala Muggu, Patnam Vachina Pativratalu, Khaidi, Magamaharaju, Srivariki Premalekha, Aha Naa Pellanta.
An accident on the sets of Baamma Maata Bangaru Maata in 1989 threatened to end his career - he broke his back and was left paralyzed waist down. However, he fought back, and emerged quite the resilient human being, choosing to act from his wheelchair despite his illness.
In 1984, he was honoured with a Nandi Award for Best Actor in a supporting role for the film Sundari Subbarao, and then, with the NTR National Award in 2005.
