In a significant cultural decision, the Telangana government today declared Vasavi Matha Jayanthi as an official State festival, drawing strong appreciation from the Arya Vysya Officials and Professionals Association (AVOPA).
At a press meet held at the FTCCI in Red Hills, AVOPA leaders termed the move a historic recognition of the Arya Vysya community's heritage and values rooted in the teachings of Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Devi.
They also thanked Endowments Minister Konda Surekha.
A grand celebration is scheduled for April 26 at Ravindra Bharathi and is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, ministers and senior officials.
The association also urged the government to declare Aathmarpana Dinotsavam (Self-Sacrifice Day) as an official observance, and said that Andhra Pradesh had already accorded recognition to both occasions.
The AVOPA said that Vasavi Jayanthi, observed during April-May, honours the ideals of non-violence, righteousness and sacrifice, which were central to the community's ethos.
Calling the decision a boost to cultural inclusivity, AVOPA said that it was reaffirming its commitment to social service and harmony.
