A special CBI court dismissed the bail pleas of former minister Mopidevi Venkataramana and senior bureaucrat K V Brahmananda Reddy, who are accused in the Vadrarevu And Nizampatnam Port And Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) project case.
CBI said that it did not grant a bail to Mopidevi since there were chances that the accused could damage the evidences against him.
The CBI also stated that the VANPIC project had to go through a process of competitive bidding, which did not happen, and that the project was taken up by the government of Ras Al Khaima of UAE.
Sources say that the former minister, during the reign of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, had gotten the project approved by the cabinet and then transferred 28,000 acres of land for the project.
Mopidevi was the minister for infrastructure and investments when the deal of VANPIC was finalised. Besides Mopidevi, K V Brahmananda Reddy, Roads And Buildings minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, and 11 others were charged in this case.
